There’s no where in the whole world more comfortable than that. And Jack said to make him comfortable, didn’t he?”―Lock discusses taking Santa Claus to Oogie Boogie

It’s been a busy couple of weeks, but the weather in AZ is finally starting to break and I’m back to being able to put more time into my projects. With Halloween coming up, I decided to add more ongoing projects into the mix. Projects in flight at the bottom of the post for those that are interested.

This model is of Lock from the Nightmare Before Christmas. They are also known as Halloween’s finest trick or treaters! I am doing all three. Shock is currently being painted. Barrel is on print 2 of 4 in the background, as I write this. The original model was $10. What drew me to it was the wood grain within the model. So many models are flat and fairly boring. This one had character.

I also decided, I wanted to print it fairly large. Which meant, dealing with carving up the model, gluing it up and attempting to hide seems (that could be better, but good enough). With this model, I wasn’t happy with the glue up. I had no easy way to hold the 4 parts together as the glue dried. I was already well under way, printing Shock, before I ran into this problem. I’ve modified Barrel to have clamp mounting points at the seems. We’ll see if that helps.

I haven’t decided if these are going to be indoor or outdoor decorations for Halloween. I sized them for outside, but I like this enough that I’m worried about it disappearing. So, it might stay inside. I also think they aren’t going away after the holiday. They may get a permanent home somewhere around the patio.

Other projects currently in flight and their status

  • Kowalski – Nearly done. I figured out the stage and am happy with it. I need to mount/hang the stage to the lamp. I’ve ordered some hooks and will be experimenting with gluing hooks to the part and hanging the stage with jewelry chain or wire.
  • Private – Running in circles on various designs. A new thought popped into my head a day or two ago that would involved mold making and resin components. I’ve been wanting an excuse to get into these materials for awhile and this may be the ticket. But, it dramatically increases the complexity and effort.
  • Sound system box – I have everything set up for audio on the patio. The receiver amplifier is going to go into another plastic box. I originally was just going to mount it white because doing it up like the Mai Tai box is going to delay it substantially. But, I know if I don’t do it now, I never will and it will be in a very visible space… So, I’m going to use the project and paint something on the main door and just give the rest of it some neutral color. I need to start this soon as I want to get the audio system running. This box will also house the electrical connections for the penguin lights.
  • Hat box ghost. An artist provided a model for a Tiki styled Hatbox Ghost mask. I have scaled it up a little bit and prepared it for printing. Sometime in the next week I should be able to print it. The painting will probably be a bit more effort as I want to give it some nice color.
