20240114 First Lathe Project (failure)

This was my first real attempt to turn something on the lathe and it didn’t go well. I’m trying to make a cocktail smoker. It is a glue up of three boards. This means, I’m mostly dealing with end grain. The results, were somewhat expected. A lot of chipped out wood. I actually figured this out before I started, but I wanted to see how it went anyways.

Once I had a lot of chip out, I thought it might be interesting to try and mix in some resin to fill in the gaps. The resin hadn’t cured when I pulled it out of the pressure pot, the next day. I need to investigate why. It could have been too cold, I could have failed to mix properly, or, maybe, I just didn’t read the directions and give it enough time. The resin remains, had cured when I was cleaning up a few days later.

I have another glue up, done the same way, with different wood. I will probably get similar results, but I will be trying it in the near future.
